Our goal is to share the information you need to develop a customized evacuation plan to be Good to Go from Wildfire. If you have questions not answered in the workbooks or videos, please fill out the form below or email us at GoodtoGoSunol@gmail.com,

Good to Go! builds upon existing locally accepted programs and outreach methods.  A bibliography of sources are available by emailing us.

CAL FIRE recommends that even with COVID-19 in our communities, you still need to prepare your family and home ahead of time for the possibility of having to evacuate. Ensure you have a plan of what to take and where to go. Ask friends or relatives outside your area if you would be able to stay with them, should the need arise.

If you do need to evacuate and plan to stay with friends or relatives, ask first if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or have people in their home at higher risk for serious illness. If that is the case, make other arrangements. Check with hotels, motels and campgrounds to learn if they are open.

Prepare your family for a potential evacuation during a Red Flag warning or PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).  While you may not be asked to evacuate, you should be prepared.

To prepare your family for potential evacuation:

  1. Review your Go Bags and customized Got to Go! evacuation checklist.
  2. Dress for survival.
  3. Monitor information sources.  Ensure your mobile phones are charged and receiving messages.  Remain alert and monitor conditions nearby.

To prevent ignitions, do not use power tools, barbecues or any potential heat or spark source outside during a Red Flag warning or PSPS.

To learn more about what to do for a potential evacuation or PSPS:  see Module 2 – Set to go!  and customize a Got to Go! checklist for your family.

Fire agencies and law enforcement will communicate about evacuation through their community warning systems.  You must sign up to receive these warnings at:

AC Alert www.acalert.org for Alameda County.

Community Warning System (CWS)  https://cwsalerts.com/ for Contra Costa County.

There are additional ways to confirm evacuation orders and warnings.  See Module 1 -Getting Ready to Go! to learn more about how to know when to go.

An evacuation order  means an immediate threat to life.  Evacuate immediately! Do not delay to gather belonging or prepare your home.  Follow any directions provided in the evacuation order.

An evacuation warning means to leave as soon as possible as there is potential threat to life and property.  A short delay to gather valuables and prepare your home may be ok.

If you haven’t created a Go Bag use the “No Time? Must Go?” Checklist and prioritize your top 10 items to gather before you go.  See Module 2 – Set to go! for more information.

If at any time you feel unsafe, leave immediately.

The CALFIRE Ready for Wildfire App https://www.readyforwildfire.org/more/ready-for-wildfire-app/ allows you to take a survey that will provide a list of actions to take to prepare your family and home for the next California wildfire.
